Are there shift inhibits based on engine speed?
There are shift inhibits that are based on input speed (ie – if you’re over XXX rpm engine speed and drop to into gear, you’ll be inhibited). Output speed should not inhibit your shift to range – you could be going 100, and shifting to range should put you into the correct range for that output speed.

Check the sensor head to determine if it has been warped/distorted due to the corrosion build up or other causes. Check the mounting surface on the sensor head for flatness by placing it on the edge of a metal machinists scale or other suitable straight edge to measure the flatness.
What should the speed sensor reading be on a 2006 Silverado?
Place a Digital Volt Meter (DVM) across the terminals of each wheel speed sensor connector. Rotate the wheel clockwise approximately one revolution per second. The minimum reading should be at least 350 ACmV’s. If the reading is less than 350 ACmV’s, remove the wheel speed sensor.

Why does my Duramax say range shift inhibited?
NSBU connecters are very well sealed form the factory. they have silcone inside the connector. they are very hard to disconnect. you could have bend or kinked shift linkage. I have replaced the NSBU switch, filled the transmission fluid, and it is still blinking the “Range Shift Inhibited” when I shift into Reverse.
Why do I have a brake problem on my 2004 Silverado?
When at a stop, I can feel the pedal slowly sinking. Pumping the pedal sounds like either ai in the lines or a bad booster. Bleed the system correctly starting at the bypass valve then working from the next farthest out caliper (rt rear) next closest and so on until you’ve bled all the calipers.

Why does my durmax truck say range shift inhibited?
I am hoping someone will have an answer to what is going on with my 2004 GMC Sierra 2500 HD Durmax truck. When I go to shift into gear (reverse or drive) on the dash a message appears “Range Shift Inhibited,” and the truck does not engage into gear. I have to put it back into park and shift into gear again.

I cannot find this particular issue on the threads, this is NOT “SHIFT RANGE INHIBITED” message but maybe someone here can tell me if related. Yesterday I pulled out of my driveway which exits onto a downhill. I was at Idle, and had inadvertently missed D and was instead in N.
Can a 2001 5 speed have nsbu issues?
The older 5 speeds (2001-2005) can have NSBU issues. Be careful not to become transmission hypochondriacs, my thought is that the OP has nothing wrong with his 2008 other than the set of events with the truck rolling in neutral and selecting range.
