What is PEX C?
PEX C pipe is made using an electronic irradiation process to cross-link, known as “Cold cross-linking”. The cross-linking of the molecules is done after the process of extrusion by exposing the pipe to electron radiation.
Is PEX AB or C better?
If there’s a practical difference between the two, it’s their relative hardness levels. “PEX-C is the softer of the two,” O’Brian continues, and for that reason, “it’s more vulnerable to kinks.” On the plus side: Because a different manufacturing process goes into PEX-C, it typically costs less than PEX-B.
How do you tell if you have PEX AB or C?
Again, the main distinction lies in the manufacturing method, which is what assigns an A, B or C to PEX.
- PEX A is made using the Peroxide, or Engel, method.
- PEX B is formed using Silane, or Moisture Cure, method.
- PEX C is created using the Electronic Irradiation, or Cold, method of cross-linking.
How long has Uponor PEX been around?
Uponor (formerly Wirsbo) has been making PEX pipe for radiant floor heating since 1970, longer than any other PEX manufacturer. We were also the first to bring radiant floor heating to North America in the mid-1980s.
Is uponor the same as wirsbo?
Popular brands include Bow, Watts and Viega. PEX-b can only be used with the various crimp or push-fit style connection methods. It is not recommended to expand PEX-b pipe since it has no molecular memory. More information on this topic is covered in our difference between PEX tubing article.
What type of PEX is Zurn?
Wall Fluid Capacity Wt . Per 100 Ft . Designation (CTS) (In .) (In .)
When was the invention of PEX pipe made?
As a matter of fact, PEX was developed in the late 1950s and early 1960s. In this article, we’re going to talk about the history of PEX piping, and the manufacturing process behind this phenomenal product.
What does PEX stand for in engineering terms?
HDPE. PEX stands for cross-linked polyethylene, (and is sometimes referred to as XLPE.) Polyethylene is composed of chains of ethylene molecules referred to as polymers, (hence “poly”-ethylene.) These polymers don’t connect, which is what gives polyethylene its flexibility.
How is PEX prepared from thermoplastic polyethylene?
Various methods can used to prepare PEX from thermoplastic polyethylene (PE-LD, PE-LLD or PE-HD). The first PEX material was prepared in the 1930s, by irradiating the extruded tube with an electron beam. The electron beam processing method was made feasible in the 1970s, but was still expensive.
How is Pex a and HDPE cross linked?
PEX A. This is cross-linked using the “Engel” process. It involves introducing peroxides, (a form of oxygen,) to the HDPE prior to forming it. This addition enables more bonding at the atomic level, resulting in the highest degree of cross-linking.
