retrIeVaL conVerSIon To change your reel to right-hand wind, unclip the drag gear by squeezing the retaining tags. Remove the gear, flip it over, and reclip. Arrows on the drag gear indicate direction of wind. Arrows facing clockwise indicate left-hand wind.

The reel is phenomenal, but I do appreciate that Orvis didn’t overweight the line too much. That allows the rod to load well at medium distances, but still maintain enough delicacy to lay down smaller dries to wary trout. Orvis packs a Rulon disc drag into a die-cast large-arbor affair that’s damn near bombproof.
What line is Orvis encounter?
Orvis puts weight forward (WF) line on the Encounter reel. This means that the line is a bit heavier on the first 10 yards to make casting easier. Also, this heavier line gives anglers more power to flip flies and present them properly. For beginners, weight forward line is great.
