There I was ready to use my hard earned cloak of deception on Malus, only to realize you can’t use any of your items during time attack mode.
How do you use Time Attack items in Shadow of the Colossus?
There are two Time Attack modes you unlock, and both grant you lots of cool weapons and tools to make hunting the Colossus easier. You’ll unlock one item every time you beat two Colossi. Just head to the pool at the back of the Shrine of Worship to pick them up and equip them.

You can now enter Time Attack Mode by pressing CIRCLE to pray in front of a Colossus statue. By beating the Colossus under the required time limit in Time Attack mode, you can unlock new weapons and items.

How do you climb the shrine of worship?
It is possible to climb up the Shrine all the way to the other side of its northern (back) entrance. From there, Wander can go to the garden or run all the way across the bridge to the Forbidden Lands’ main entrance. He cannot exit the Lands, however; a mysterious gust of wind will force him back.
