What kind of bike is a Specialized Rockhopper?

The frame is a huge upgrade over the cheaper Specialized Hardrock, and is worthy of upgrading as your riding improves. The fork is supple despite basic damping, although the bike is a little heavy for a hardtail.

In its current Pro incarnation it’s almost unrecognisable from its illustrious forebears with its cutting-edge aluminium frame technology, air-sprung fork and hydraulic disc brakes. What’s impressive about the Rockhopper’s character is the way that it segues seamlessly between weekend pocket rocket and weekday commuter.

Given the Rockhopper’s price, we’ve no real complaints on the fork front, either. The snappily named Suntour SF11-XCR-DS-26-LO-SP features 80mm of coil-sprung travel, adjustable compression damping and seems far less prone to leaving a mini oil slick on its stanchions than other Suntour forks we’ve ridden lately.
