How safe are ice caves?
By definition, an ice cave is any natural cave that either contains lots of ice or is formed in ice and stays frozen year-round. That said, some ice caves are actually safe to enter, as long as they’re the rocky kind that only contain ice and have been declared safe, or provide guided tours.
What causes ice caves?
Ice caves are formed when meltwater runs under or through a glacier, melting the ice and leaving behind a cavern or passageways within the glacier. During the summer months, warmer temperatures and sunlight will melt the ice at the surface of the glacier.

How long is the Minnetonka Cave tour?
Tours leave every 30 minutes but they fill up fast. We got there right at 10 am, their posted opening time, but had to wait until 11 for our tour. The tour took about an hour and a half and when we finished at 12:30, they were already selling tickets for the 3:30 tour.
