What do Gables look like?
Gable Roof Shapes. Gabled roofs are the kind young children typically draw. They have two sloping sides that come together at a ridge, creating end walls with a triangular extension, called a gable, at the top.
Why is it called a gable end?
One common type of roof with gables, the gable roof, is named after its prominent gables. A parapet made of a series of curves (Dutch gable) or horizontal steps (crow-stepped gable) may hide the diagonal lines of the roof. Sharp gable roofs are a characteristic of the Gothic and classical Greek styles of architecture.
What are freeze boards?
Frieze board is a type of trim that is typically installed between the top of a home’s siding and the soffit. It’s normally installed flat against the home, but it may be installed at an angle if installed on a gable. Frieze board may also be used as a decorative, horizontal trim anywhere in or on the home.
What is the difference between trim and fascia?
Trim is the material used to encase windows and doors, among other features, on a home’s exterior. Fascia is a horizontal or angled board that encloses the edge or face of the projecting eaves.
What are pedimented windows?
Originally found in Greek architecture, pediments are a decorative feature placed at the top of windows or doors.
What is a cupola in art?
cupola, in architecture, small dome, often resembling an overturned cup, placed on a circular, polygonal, or square base or on small pillars or a glassed-in lantern.
What kind of trim to use on gable?
