Do you need a bar for DDR?
Reaching high levels can still be done without the bar. All the best ddr players I know can do things like max 300 without the bar. It can be done! Most of the “best” players don’t bar rape.
How do you fix a DDR foam pad?
The fix is to cut the foam layer up and tape down squares of it over each button so they’ll lie flat. Then, if you’re me, the pad has to be shoddily taped back together with duct tape, so it’s not the prettiest fix. I’ve done this previously when a pad was “broken” out of the box, and it worked nicely.

Cracks and holes in the pad are magnets for dust and once dust gets inside, you’ll find that the pad takes longer to respond and doesn’t work as well. Using a little tape can help.
