Why does my belt squeal at low rpms?
As with any belt-driven system the tension of the belt on the pulleys is a critical factor. If the tension is too low, the belt will wobble and won’t have enough friction to drive the pulleys it’s running on. If this is the case, the engine belt will slip on the pulley causing the annoying squealing noise you hate.
Why does my car engine make a squeaking noise?
This simple pulley can be smooth or have groves depending on the side of the belt it is on. This pulley deals with engine vibration directly which can cause the bearing to fail producing a squeaking noise that follows engine speed.
Why does my RPM drop when sitting idle at traffic lights?
While I’m sitting idle at traffic lights I put the car into neutral. The engine stays idling at about 1000 RPM. However every now and then it drops down to about 500 RPM and then quickly back up to about 1200 then goes slowly down to 1000 and stays there for a bit until I go again or it drops again.
Why does my car make a high pitched noise when I accelerate?
If a pulley is misaligned or seized it will rub on the edge of the belt causing this squeaking or chirping. If you think this is your problem check out our article about squealing engine belts so you can fix the high pitched noise your car is making. Why Does My Car Make Noise When I Accelerate?
When does a car stall at low rpm?
The RPM goes to 0 and the engine shuts off. This only happens when travelling at low speeds (e.g. slowly accelerating from a stop, braking, moving in stop and go traffic) This NEVER happens when I’m travelling above 10 mph (e.g. if I’m coasting at 40 and let my foot off the gas, the RPM can go to 500 RPM but it will never stall in this case).

What kind of noise does a car make when it is low on oil?
There’s a distinctive sound that the car engine makes when the oil is low. It resembles a clicking, ticking or tapping noise. Thankfully, this condition is one of the easiest to diagnose; just take a look at the dipstick. You can also resolve the issue easily by adding more oil. However, adding oil is a short-term fix.
Why does my serpentine belt make noise while driving?
The serpentine belt can be showing signs of wear as well or a worn out tensioner that is not supplying adequate pressure to the belt. Both of these noises can come and go and occur at different times while driving. What Goes Wrong?
