What is Querier IGMP?
The master of the IGMP filter lists is the router or switch that is configured to act as the IGMP Querier. The responsibility of the Querier is to send out IGMP group membership queries on a timed interval, to retrieve IGMP membership reports from active members, and to allow updating of the group membership tables.
What is an IGMP interface?
Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) is an IPv4 protocol that a multicast receiver uses to communicate with an interface on a Palo Alto Networks® firewall and that the firewall uses to track the membership of multicast groups.
What is a Querier?
Definitions of querier. someone who asks a question. synonyms: asker, enquirer, inquirer, questioner.
What is querier address?
When enabled, the IGMP snooping querier uses the IP address as the query source address. • If there is no IP address configured on the VLAN interface, the IGMP snooping querier tries to use the configured global IP address for the IGMP querier.
Is IGMP Snooping safe?
Especially in larger networks, IGMP Snooping switch reduces unnecessarily high traffic which can even lead to network congestion. Criminals can take advantage of this safe leak and flood individual hosts or the entire network with multicast packets to break them down, just like a typical DoS/DDoS attack.
Is IGMP a ping?
1. ICMP stands for Internet Control Message Protocol. While IGMP stands for Internet Group Message Protocol. ICMP has PING features.
Where is IGMP used?
IGMP can be used for one-to-many networking applications such as online streaming video and gaming, and allows more efficient use of resources when supporting these types of applications. IGMP is used on IPv4 networks.
What kind of IP address does an IGMP querier use?
If there is no global IP address specified, the IGMP querier tries to use the VLAN device virtual interface (SVI) IP address (if one exists). If there is no SVI IP address, the device uses the first available IP address configured on the device.
When does the IGMP snooping querier move to nonquerier?
The IGMP snooping querier does not generate an IGMP general query if it cannot find an available IP address on the device. The IGMP snooping querier supports IGMP Versions 1 and 2. When administratively enabled, the IGMP snooping querier moves to the nonquerier state if it detects the presence of a multicast router in the network.
What happens when IGMP report suppression is enabled?
When IGMP report suppression is enabled (the default), the device sends the first IGMP report from all hosts for a group to all the multicast routers. The device does not send the remaining IGMP reports for the group to the multicast routers.
How to configure IGMP snooping and multicast VLAN?
The IP multicast groups learned through IGMP snooping are dynamic. However, you can statically configure multicast groups by using the ip igmp snooping vlan vlan-id static ip_address interface interface-id global configuration command.
