Why are coolant hoses molded?
Molded Hoses: Molded hoses are exactly what they sound like – they’re molded into a specific shape to fit the configuration of your engine without the hose kinking or contacting a piece of metal or another engine component. They’re often used for lower radiator hoses, or for heater hoses.
What is a molded heater hose?
Molded Heater Hose is designed to replace OEM coolant hose in applications where molded hose in small diameters (1” I.D. or smaller) is required. The molded configuration eliminates the need for multiple connections of hoses and clamps when added to Dayco’s line of molded heater hose and assemblies.
What causes collapsed coolant hose?
The most common cause for radiator hose collapse is a vacuum issue caused by a faulty radiator cap. As the engine cools, if fluid cannot return to the tank, this will also cause a vacuum. Additionally, it is possible that your radiator is clogged or dirty, but if that’s the case, you’re likely to have some overheating.
What does a collapsed coolant hose mean?
As the pressure in the system drops — when the engine is off and cooling down — the pressure cap allows the excess coolant in the overflow tank to return to the radiator. If the radiator cap is malfunctioning, the vacuum created in the system will collapse the hose.
Can I use any hose for coolant?
No issues. I went to an industrial hose and fitting supply. The very knowledgeable guy recommended fuel line as it was rated for the heat range and resistant to most anything. You will be fine.
Is coolant hose the same as heater hose?
Coolant hoses and heater hoses are essentially the same thing, but applied towards different purposes. Coolant fluid, like Freon, is much more effective at cooling an engine (and heating a car) than regular water, because water boils and freezes much faster than Freon.
Can you use heater hose for coolant?

How do you install a radiator water pump?
If you are using a short coupler, install it about half-way into each hose. Then we installed the two hose sections onto the radiator and the water pump. Once they were oriented correctly, we could secure the pieces with hose clamps. Here is the pipe complete with hose clamps.

With less effort, you can build a custom radiator hose that not only holds that 200-degree coolant inside the system where it belongs, but also looks really good too. Most of the parts can be purchased at your local NAPA Auto Parts Store too, making the entire process convenient.
How does a water pump repair kit coupler work?
Using two long 1-3/4” elbows that were trimmed to fit together, the repair kit coupler was assembled and each hose was twisted so that it could connect to the water pump and radiator respectively. Once we had it positioned, the sectioned were secured using standard hose clamps.
