When did the TDI Touareg V10 come out?
Thinking of getting a 2009-2012 model. Would love a V10, but I am scared of the maintenance $$$$$$. Will be used for pulling a jetski or motorcycle trailer, occasional camping and a little offroading. And maybe a camper someday.

Are there any issues with the Touareg engine?
Nox sensors and tank heaters are your only worry and they are not engine related. There are just too many to list…. They’ll likely never have timing chain problems. I’ve wrenched on and completely disassembled and inspected these engines in marine applications with 1000+ hours of WOT on them. Never seen any chain issues.
Is the 3.0L TDI Touareg a good car?
There are just too many to list…. They are an expensive vehicle, and they are not cheap to keep in good order. For an SUV, they drive nice and the 3.0L TDI is a sweetheart of an engine for power and fuel economy, especially moving something as heavy as the T’reg (they are NOT exactly lightweight).

Did not “look” that bad, but with all the crunchy bits up front (dual charge air coolers, etc.) it ended up being a whopping $11k repair. And it was still [barely] driveable. Once his insurance company realized how fragile and expensive it was to repair, his rates shot up and evidently other companies followed suit.
