Here you can see that with the suspension strut and wheel arch liner removed, and the subframe dropped on the driver’s side you can lower the engine enough for the gearbox to come out through the gap. I couldn’t lever the driveshaft out as Haynes suggested, so I decided to withdraw it with the gearbox and then take a look.
