Is the 2005 Volvo S40 a good car?
The 2005 Volvo S40 will go down in my database of cars (like movies) that won’t leave a lasting impression on me. There’s nothing terribly noteworthy about it. It’s fine to drive, not stellar and not awful either.
What kind of engine does a Volvo S40 have?
If you are looking for sport, go for the turbocharged 2.5 liter engine. The car does drive very well, it’s nimble and can take corners with no problem. It’s small, but drives like a big car on the highway, feeling solid and smooth. Uncommon for small cars.

There is a known design defect where, if the sunroof drains that run down the doors of the car clog, water drains into the interior of the car from the lower part of the doors. Absolutely ridiculous. You need to regularly clear the drains with compressed air.
This car has a really good exterior, it is very safe and reliable, the only issue is because it a luxurius car, maintenance costs a lot of money. It very good on gas and its great for new drivers. Rating breakdown (out of 5): Comfort 5.0.

Are there any problems with the 2005 Volvo S40?
Also, 2005 models don’t come with an auxiliary jack or bluetooth, and you can’t put an aftermarket CD player in. You’re looking at around $1000 to replace the CD player at the dealership if something goes wrong. It also seems the only problems I’ve had with the car required me to go to the dealership for repairs. LOVE this car!
Is the Volvo S40 a good car to buy?
The “high” maintenance bills (it did need the timing belt replaced for being over 100k – $700) and “Volvo” stigma were intimidating at first, but now that I’ve had the car I know it was still a solid choice. It’s got all the features I wanted, gets good gas
Is there a recall on the Volvo S40?
There is a recall on the fuel pump which I believe Volvo is fixing. The control for the a/c and heat are just knobs and the temp is on a display where the cd player is located. There is no aux cord and to replace the center console it’ll have to be taken to Volvo like everything else. Only real draw back thus far. Does recommend this car!!

An old car but a working car. The car is older so it requires more maintenance as oppose to a newer vehicle. The car itself has a lot of material problems, such as a constant issue of water somehow getting into the car and flooding only one side. The driver’s seat has recently locked in place, thank goodness it was to my alignment.
When did my Volvo S40 electrical system go bad?
This happened yesterday 1/28/16 and in April 2015 (the dealership “fixed it” but it didn’t work!!!!) yesterday, while driving home from work, the car did the scariest thing I’ve ever experienced while driving. All the lights on the dash, all the warning lights flashed several times and the car came to a complete standstill.
What kind of maintenance does a Volvo S40 need?
Vehicle has required little more than basic scheduled maintenance, though major repairs, when needed, have been costly (likely due to being luxury import). The leather interior and mix of automated seat controls with the smoothest manual shift column makes this the most comfortable car of its year.
Why is my sunroof not working on my Volvo S40?
Once it was safe to exit the freeway, we pulled into a gas station and examine the sunroof to make sure it was shut properly, which it was, not understanding why this was happening, he and I used as many pieces of napkins and cloth that we could find to sop up as much water as we could and as best as we could.
