What should fuel pressure be on C7 ACERT cat?
You could still have a fuel pressure problem. Even though you have replaced the fuel pressure regulator, you could have a problem with the fuel transfer pump. I would install a PSIgauge and check the fuel pressure while cranking. The C7 needs at least 25 psi to start.
Why did caterpillar Change the fuel pump on the C7?
With this change, Caterpillar changed the fuel system of the C7 to common-rail injection. The common-rail injection took injection pressures to 27,500 psi. The transfer pump supplies fuel to the fuel rail at 280 psi. The reduction of sulfur levels in ULSD means less lubricity, so circulating the fuel rapidly at high pressure keeps heat down.
What kind of pump does a C7 engine use?
Just a thought! The early C7 engines were HEUI. They also had the fairly early version of the HEP HEUI pump, and were prone to breaking springs on the delivery valves of the high pressure pump. Your symptoms sound about right for a HEUI pump problem.
When to replace Cat C7 loss of acceleration?
If the pump will not build the specified pressure, then it gets replaced. If it is not building enough pressure, they may notice the gear is slipping on the shaft, and per Cat the pump should be replaced as this is a sign of partial pump seizure. There’s your problem.
What causes a C7 engine to not start?
If the air pressure releases from the cylinder then you probably don’t have broken piston rings, blown head gasket, or a scored cylinder. Also check the fuel pressure regulator (valve) in the back of the head. C7 engines have problems with the fuel pressure regulator not maintaining enough fuel pressure especially when cranking.
What to do if your C7 ACERT cat wont start?
The only other thing is if the regulator or transfer pump you installed is faulty. The only way to test would be to install a cutoff valve at the inlet fuel line to the pump and the return fuel line at the regulator. When the engine is shut down, turn one of the valves off and wait. Then open the valve and see if it starts.
Where are the sensors on a C7 ACERT cat?
They are located on the driver’s side of the engine behind the front cover under the HEUI pump. The bottom sensor is the primary crank sensor. When it fails, the engine can be hard to start. By shooting in the engine, the RPM elevates high enough and the primary running sensor picks up the signal and the engine runs.
What causes low oil pressure in a Caterpillar C7?
This article explains 7 of the most common causes for low oil pressure in a Caterpillar C7 but the principals can apply to the majority of diesel engines. Before any inspection begins it is important to take a few precautions before tearing into the engine. Remember to keep all parts clean and free of contaminants.
What causes high oil pressure in a diesel engine?
Excess fluids in the oil consequently will cause high oil levels in the crankcase. High oil levels in the crankcase will generally always point to excessive fluid leaking somewhere else in the engine. Common contaminants include diesel fuel, coolant, or water.
What should you do if your diesel engine has low oil pressure?
Loss of engine oil pressure is a serious yet common matter with diesel engines. It should be noted that ignoring a low oil pressure warning could result in serious damage to your engine. The best way to keep your engine running is to regularly change the oil and keep the internal parts properly lubricated. Lubrication is life blood of any engine.
Why is my C7 ACERT cat hard to start?
The bottom sensor is the primary crank sensor. When it fails, the engine can be hard to start. By shooting in the engine, the RPM elevates high enough and the primary running sensor picks up the signal and the engine runs. Let me know if you need more help or have more questions.
