What should the transmission temperature be on a Jeep Cherokee?
The transmission temperature that you are referring to is normal. The transmission on this vehicle does run slightly higher than the cooling system temperature. Most of the time it should run about 210-220.
How hot can a transmission get before it goes out?
The optimal temperature range for transmission fluid is 175 to 220 degrees. Above that, for every 20 degrees bad things happen, starting with formation of varnish at 240 degrees, followed by seals hardening, plates slipping, seals and clutches burn out, carbon is formed, and, ultimately, failure.
What should my coolant temperature be?
Normal Temperature engine temperature gauge Most experts agree that your engine should run between 195 degrees and 220 degrees.
What temperature does a transmission overheat?
Without enough transmission fluid or effective fluid, your transmission will start acting out. The ideal fluid temperature is under 175 degrees, but as fluid ages it starts to break down and lose its capacity to cool down the transmission. This is when transmission overheating occurs. At 220 degrees, varnish forms.
Is it safe to drive with the transmission temperature down?
You need to let your transmission cool down. Checking your transmission fluid can help you to determine if your transmission is overheating. Transmission fluid isn’t like engine oil – it doesn’t burn up under normal circumstances. If the fluid level is down, then there is a very good chance that something is wrong.
What happens if your transmission temperature is 260?
At 240 degrees, your transmission will last about 1/4 the time that it should. And if you get up to 260 degrees, you are down to 1/8 the normal life. Hot transmissions give off an odor. Ideally, if your transmission overheats, your Transmission Temperature Light will come on.
What should the transmission temp be on a jeep?
Couldn’t find answers by asking dealers or local shops or surfing web. Bought an infrared thermometer and for awhile when light came on I pulled over and shot the ray at tranny pan. Temp was always at 180 degrees (give or take a few) which is spec. Had fluid/filters replaced at dealer in January and it still comes on at times.
Why does the transmission fluid always hold the same temperature?
Cars often have the coolant for the engine as a heat exchanger for the transmission fluid and therefore, they will often hold the same temperature if you are driving it normally.
