How close can exhaust be to fuel tank?
As long as they don’t bang together. Lots of factory exhaust systems are no more than an inch or 2 away. The exhaust isn’t very hot by the time it gets to the back of the car. Not as hot as the front anyway.
Do fuel tanks need to be double walled?
Double walled tanks are preferable to single-wall tanks. Single-wall tanks are required to be located in a diked area that will contain 110% of the largest tank’s capacity in accordance with NFPA30. A diked area typically consists of a concrete containment that retains fuel to a depth greater than one inch.
Does an auxiliary fuel tank need to be vented?
You need a vent line from the breather fuel fill neck hose to the aux fuel tank. Transfer flow uses a double pipe that has both a fill and vent on the same part that tees into the fuel tank vent line.
Can I use two bottles of Cataclean?
Cataclean is safe for both petrol and diesel engines, you don’t have to buy different versions for each fuel type. One bottle does both. Cataclean recommend using it three to four times a year to keep your fuel system in peak condition.
Why are fuel storage tanks painted white?
By painting the fuel storage tank with a reflective paint such as silver or white, evaporation losses can be reduced by up to 40% over a dark color storage tank. Keeping a fuel tank full limits the amount of air in contact with the fuel which reduces the amount of water absorbed into the fuel.
Is header wrap good or bad?
Here’s the downside of header wrap, the wrap elevates pipe temperatures, promoting cracking, and traping moisture, greatly accelerating corrosion, especially if the bike is operated in hard weather where the pipes and wrap can get soaked down. So here’s what I would recommend, get the pipes coated, or chromed.
How much fuel trim should I put in my tank?
When everything is stable and working correctly, fuel trim numbers should be no greater than 10%, and total fuel trim should be no more than 10% when the numbers are added together. For example, if LTFT is 4% and STFT is 4%, the total is 8%: that’s acceptable. If LTFT is 12% and STFT is negative 6%, total fuel trim is 6%.
What are the different types of fuel trim?
That adjustment is “fuel trim.” There are two types of fuel trim, long-term and short-term, and the numbers are displayed on the scan tool as a percentage of fuel added to or subtracted from the pre-programmed fuel quantity.
What is the formula for negative fuel trim?
Too little oxygen in the exhaust indicates a rich mixture, causing the PCM to reduce injector pulse width (negative fuel trim). The formula for fuel trim calculation is: Fuel mass = Air mass x (short-term fuel trim x long-term fuel trim) divided by (equivalence ratio x 14.64)
What does LTFT and STFT mean on fuel trim?
If LTFT is 12% and STFT is negative 6%, total fuel trim is 6%. This shows that the PCM has enough control to keep the catalyst working correctly, but the high LTFT number shows it’s compensating for something. On an older engine, LTFT is typically a bit higher as the PCM compensates for normal wear.
