Why does my fan come on when I stop my car?
Engines operate at their most efficient when they’re hot but not too hot. The fan turns on when you’ve stopped driving because no more cooling air is flowing into the engine bay. This causes the temperature to rise, automatically triggering the fan.
Why does my car sound like its still running?
Engine cooling fans and other systems are programmed to keep running in some cars even when the engine is off. Once outside the car, she could hear a fan running in the engine area and asked us if this is normal. It is. And many other sounds from under the hood of a car that has been shut off are also normal.
What does a bad car fan sound like?
A loud whirring Noise In some cases, when the radiator cooling fan motor fails, you’ll notice a loud clicking or whirring noise that changes as you rev your engine.
Is it normal for a car fan to run after the engine is turned off?
It’s “normal” for a thermostatically controlled fan to run after the engine is switched off – in fact it may even start running a short time after switch off, as the residual heat in the engine transfers to the coolant. But from your description it seems like the fan might be running all the time, if it starts up when the engine starts.
Why does the coolant fan run when the engine is shut down?
This behaviour is by design. The coolant fan will run when the coolant exceeds a certain temperature irrespective of if the engine is running or not. Some vehicles even have supplementary electric water pumps set to run after engine shut down to keep coolant circulating.
Why does the radiator fan run all the time?
The radiator fan may run up to five minutes and sometimes longer. Unless there is an electrical issue, it may stay on all the time until it drains the battery. When the engine is running, the coolant circulates from the engine and flows to the radiator, where heat is dissipated.
Why does my Mini Cooper Engine Fan keep running?
I’m a little concerned about this because when this happened in my 2002 MINI Cooper the entire fan unit had to be replaced. Also caused the battery to die. Well with our 2008 Seat Leon 1.9 TDI BLS at work the fan runs all the time hot or cold. This happened to me once. I’ve had my 2012 Golf TDI for about 2 weeks.
