Why does my car stall on cold start?
Cold stalling problems are the most common because the engine needs a richer fuel mixture to maintain idle speed until it warms up. Intermittent cold stalling problems are almost always fuel-related. The engine may also be leaking vacuum around the base of the carburetor, vacuum hoses or the EGR valve.
Why does my car stall when I first start?
Stalling problems trace back to three primary causes: a lack of fuel, not receiving enough air, or insufficient power. Common reasons include an empty gas tank, a faulty fuel pump, a bad ignition coil, fouled spark plugs, water in the fuel, or a failing sensor. An engine stall is never fun.
What causes a car to stall on a cold start?
It also manages the idle under changing engine loads, like when you kick on the air conditioning, turn on the headlights, or turn up the radio. When the idle air control valve malfunctions, you may experience a rough idle or the vehicle may stall entirely. This is especially true on cold starts.
Why does my car stall after a long ride?
After riding a while and it is hot it will stall at idle but starts back up with no problem. It just will not idle. It will also return to normal and idle fine after stopping for lunch. It sometimes is fine for the rest of the ride. Any Ideas? Check for trouble codes. A failing sensor will often “act up” when warm/hot.
Why does my Harley Davidson stall when I idle?
It always starts easily when cold and idles well, but after a few minutes, if I’m idling awhile to get out of my driveway, the idle will fall and the engine will threaten to stall. If it does stall it’s hard to get started again, I have to give it a little throttle to get it to start and stay running.
What to do when your Harley starts stalling?
Start the bike cold. Mist the intake flanges with brake cleaner. If your bike’s idle drops, or the engine stalls, you have an intake leak. If this is the case, replace the intake seals along with the front & rear intake flanges. If the bike passes the intake test; have the dealer or your mechanic scan the m/c for possible codes.
