Why is my backup light not working on my Outback?
This morning when my wife was backing our 2005 Outback out of the garage, I noticed the backup light was not lit. Just earlier tonight I checked the bulb, the fuses (#18 under dash and another fuse in the main circuit box under the hood) and all seem to be good. I had a backup sensor installed and it stopped working too.

Also, if a fuse seems to blow repeatedly, and it powers an electrical circuit that includes something in the rear gate, it could be a broken wire at the sleeve touching ground. (Seen this with the clearance and tail light fuse, and with the brake light fuse.) Welcome to the forum! Just discovered this on my 08′.

Why are the reverse lights not working on my Subaru Outback?
I have a 2008 outback and the reverse lights just stopped coming on a few months ago. I tried replacing the bulbs, but that wasn’t the problem. I then thought it might be a wiring problem, and it was. When you open the trunk you can see two rubber sleeves near the roof that run from the car to the trunk.

Where are the fuses on a Subaru Outback?
The fuses in the dash fuse panel (such as #18) have small openings above their pins. It’s possible to check for voltage at both sides of the fuse using a fine test probe (or pin), just to be sure power is getting through. Also, the diagram of the fuse layout can be confusing. On my car, it’s reversed from the actual fuse panel arrangement.
