When to replace a Subaru belt timing chain?
The old belt system went about 100 k before replacement was needed. There’s a thread about it somewhere in the FB25 forum. But, generally speaking, a modern timing chain shouldn’t need replacing unless it’s defective, or you do a crazy high mileage…. by which point you’d probably be looking at an engine rebuild anyway.
What kind of chain does a Subaru Forester use?
It’s not like a chain on a 2000 RPM diesel motor. The diesel I drive don’t use chains at all, The cams are linked by gears. With daily high RPM use, just wondering what that chain will be like at 200,000 miles.
Do you need to repair the timing belt cover?
Other mechanics told us that it may simply require repairing the silicone seal around the timing belt cover and should not require further maintenance. Please share your insights and experience. Thanks you!
Why is oil leaking from the timing chain?
Thanks so much for your time! Timing chains have engine oil lubricating them, so the leak is probably just the oil normally in the timing cover area. Camshaft seals are not routing maintenance, and only need to be replaced when leaking. But there is supposed to be oil in that area, so it’s kind of a moot point, I guess.
