Can a Subaru battery last a long time?
Subaru doesn’t make batteries so yes you are missing something. This can happen with any brand of battery. It can even depend upon how long the battery sat between the time it was manufactured and the time the car became a daily driver. As Volvo_V70 correctly states; Subaru does not manufacture their batteries so they should not get the blame.

Thanks to warranty, I had roadside assistance and yes, I had the batteries replaced at no cost. But I couldn’t get the feeling of being let down by a brand new battery, so I had them replaced with a Die Hard and Optima battery.

When to replace battery in Subaru Forester 2011?
The batteries after 2010/2011 are undersized junk, with little reserve capacity. Shopping for AGM replacement for mine. My 2011 Forester got a new battery (under warranty) when I went in for regular service after about 2 years.
