Why does my key keep getting stuck in my Subaru?
The key release is a solenoid activated by a switch in the shifter. Either the switch is going bad or there is lint or dirt in the shifter gate preventing it from moving far enough to hit the switch when put into park. It could also be a sticky solenoid in the ignition switch, but that’s less likely.

How do you remove the key from a Subaru XV?
Not sure of the XV’s but previous Subaru’s had a small hole below the ignition in the lower steering wheel cover. By placing a small screwdriver or similar device in the hole and pressing caused a release to be activated allowing you to remove the key. Have a look, it’s free.
Where are the pins on a Subaru Crosstrek?
Pins 1 and 2 of connector B116 are for this switch. Replacing this should fix this (assuming it too doesn’t get gummed up by something later). For those worried about running out of warranty before this is repaired, don’t worry.

What to do if your Subaru key is stuck?
If you experience this contact your Subaru dealer. There is a sensor that malfunctions and the car thinks you are not in Park so it will not release the key. You need to take it out of park and switch the gears to try to activate the sensor. Schumacher Subaru of Delray replaced the malfunctioning sensor and provided car durning the repair.
