It uses an electric start system with a CDI type ignition system. The 1998 XLT uses RFI type model RN3C Champion spark plugs with a gap of 0.028 inches. The XLT’s drive system uses a P-85 type drive clutch with a 12-inch center distance and a 5/8-inch clutch offset that uses 10MB Bushed clutch weights.
What kind of gas does Polaris snowmobile use?
Compression is good, plugs all have good spark therefore I am certain the ignition is fine. I tried ether in the carbs and down the spark plug wells. I then tried straight gas in the wells.
Why does my Polaris 600 XLT not start?
I have a Polaris 600 xlt sks and It wouldn’t start after running flawlessly since I got it. So I changed the fuel filter,put in all new spark plugs, changed the gas, tested the compression on the cylinders and they were all right around 115 or 116, then I drained the gas from the cylinders and took off the spark plugs to air out the cylinders.

My 95 XLT calls for spark plus with solid caps verses the hollow ones. Any clue as to why this would be? Also, just a side poll…the spec sticker under the hood calls for Champion plugs…the wires on the sled are NGK and that is what I usually run.
