Can I start my Renault Megane with the key?
Unfortunately, to the best of my knowledge, if the Keycard detection dies there is no other way to start the car. The doors can be opened with the emergency key (pop off a cap on the handle) to allow entry to the car, say, if the battery goes flat.

What to do if your Renault key card is not detected?
They’ll put the card into a key reader that does the same thing as the car. The key reader will be able to see if the chip can be detected. How does a megane key card work in a car?
There is a small coil of wire inside the key card which the card reader on the car ‘sees’, there are 3 legs on it which are soldered to the pcb, all 3 had broken off!! I soldered the coil back into place, tried the card in the car an hay presto it works like a dream!!
