What causes a spark on a battery wrench?

The spark happened because the wrench closed the circuit between the cathode and the anode. Not knowing the make-up of your battery I could only guess on the cause of the spark.

Why does my positive battery cable spark when I try to?

I first thought the battery was the problem because it was dead. I recharged it twice with it starting. The next time it would not turn over. I changed the starter and I believe my friend crossed the wires causeing it to spark when the cables were attached. either that or I have a ground some where.

Can a wrench touch both battery terminals, now ignition dead?

Wrench touched both battery terminals, sparks, now ignition is dead. HELP! I installed a new primary battery in my 2004 236 Sunesta which I have done many times.

What makes them battery wrenches ( positive battery terminal )?

What makes them battery wrenches? 95% of the wrench is wrapped in a heavy layer of electrical tape and only the wrench jaws are exposed. Can’t even count the number of times I’ve seen guys short the positive terminal to ground. Plasti-dip works great too, but I’m too cheap to pay 8 bucks for a can of that.
