When does the grinding noise start in a car?
When decellerating from about 10 to 15 mph, the noise starts. It’s a cyclic noise that is porportional to the speed of the car. It’s not related to the engine speed or transmission speed (clutch can be in, or trans in neutral). Another important fact is that the noise does not happen when the car is cold.
Why does my Car Make Noise at 45 mph?
Since it only happens at 45+ MPH, and is fairly quiet to begin with, listening from outside the car is not an option and it gets drowned out by the wind when the windows are down. The sound only seems to be slightly affected by vehicle speed.
Why do wheel bearings make a grinding noise?
Wheel bearings have no play and feel smooth when rotated (took brake pads out to test when spinning) Brake pads are HP+, near the end of life (noise does not change when brakes applied) Noise is different than the typical HP+ squeal. The car is mostly a track duty car, so the wheel bearings see alot of heat and pressure.
Why does the serpentine belt make a chipping noise?
This chipping sound will follow the engine RPM (engine speed). Inspect the belt for glazing which is a shinny condition inside the belt grooves. To check if this the problem spray a little WD40 on the belt while the engine is running if the noise goes away the serpentine belt needs to be replaced.
Why does my car make a grinding noise when I put the brakes on?
This causes metal-to-metal contact when the brakes are applied, creating a grinding noise. This grinding is generally a very loud noise and will only grind when your brakes are applied, making the diagnosis very simple. Typically, the grinding noise will come from either the front or rear brakes, but not generally both.

What causes a loud grinding noise when making a turn?
Cause: Posi chatter due to improper lubrication; worn clutches or spider gears; improper assembly Noise:Banging, crunching, or popping while making a turn. Noise not affected by temperature Cause: Badly worn or broken spider gears Noise:Banging or heavy clicking every two to three feet during acceleration and deceleration
What causes a clunking noise on the driveline?
Cause: Bad wheel bearings Noise: Driveline squeaking or grinding at any speed Cause:Worn or damaged U-joints Noise: Clunking when depressing the throttle pedal (takeoff) Cause:Worn U-joints; worn spider gears; worn axle splines; excessive gear backlash; loose yoke splines; worn slip yoke splines Noise:Clunk immediately after taking off from a stop
