Where does the Drive ring go on a Nissan Patrol?
If you are taking off the auto clutch ring then you move the washers and C clip in further on the spline. Or convert to genuine manual hub and the drive ring will simply fit in the same place as the ring from the auto hub. Best option and strongest is a set of genuine Nissan manual hubs.
Can a Nissan Patrol hub be converted to manual?
Older auto hubs are a little different as the auto clutch part is on the stub axle shaft held on with a C clip. You can still convert them to manual but I have heard a few do not work as well or not lock in properly. It is worth having a go at doing it before spending money on another set.

It has another gear thing (can’t think of the name at the moment) that sits on the splines on the end of the axle and the clip that goes in that groove holds it on there. When you engage the manual hubs, there is another ring inside the hub that engages with that to provide the drive to the wheels.

IMHO if you leave them in AUTO when ‘wheeling around all day in the tougher going then the continuous locking and unlocking under varying conditions must surely lead to a drastic reduction in their life and premature failure. That is not what they were designed to do.
