Is it OK to change transmission fluid at high mileage?
I actually had that happen to my 96 Tahoe back in the day about 2500K after a fluid change. I have read where some say that changing the tranny fluid for the first time at high mileage is OK as long as they drop the pan and do NOT use the “changing machine”. What are some thoughts on having this done now or just leaving it alone?
When to use additives in a low mileage transmission?
I do not normally recommend the use of additives in good low mileage transmissions. On the other hand, if a transmission has over a hundred thousand miles and is exhibiting poor shifting performance, I don’t hesitate, just as long as I have tested and adjusted all external transmission controls first.

As with an oil change, refer to the manufacturer’s specifications for exact service intervals. In general, change the oil and filter every 20,000 to 30,000 miles or every 18 months. Newer cars will also want to have their automatic transmission flushed of sediment and debris every 40,000 to 50,000 miles or every 2 years.

Has 171,890 miles on it and guess what, I have never had the transmission flushed. The car runs fine. (not the best car but it runs fine) The average life of a car is about 200,000 miles according to google. So why get the transmission flushed if it won’t extend the life anyway?
Is there any truth to the ” myth ” about changing transmission fluid?
All of the cars worked great. the cavaliers both had a fuel filter issues but that was it and that was around 170,000 on both of them. The flush is a ploy to make more money, its a scam. Mechanics say it will make the transmission last longer, I want proof. You want proof that the flush ruins the transmission, I think we can prove that.
