When to throw DTC on Nissan Juke Turbo?
DTC will only be thrown when the turbo is not making enough boost or is making too much. It sounds like they did a 10 second diag of it. If you want peace of mind it sounds like you will have to do that yourself.
Is it normal for a VW engine to rattle?
I’ve certainly heard the same thing from many modern VW/Audi engines and professionally I consider it normal and harmless, although I find their 4 cylinder engines to be absurdly noisy in general and find that startup noise and general engine noise unacceptable personally.

I would have to see if it was making boost and remove the intake to check the shaft play, but the noise and location is consistent with the sound of an oil starved turbo or bad bearings. How difficult of a job is this? Can it be done all from the top? I couldn’t find any video’s on turbo replacement or downpipe replacement to get a good idea.

Let me know what you guys think! My 2012 SV 6mt has always made a ‘diesel engine’ rattling sound that’s most notable when you rev it up while not under load (i.e accelerate and leave the RPMs high at a steady speed). The sound stops if you let off the throttle completely.
