Where are the synchronizers located in a gearbox?
Within a gearbox, the synchronizers are located between two adjacent gears. For example, gears 1-2 share the same synchronization mechanism, 3-4 another one and the same for 5-6.
How does gear synchro work in double clutch transmissions?
In automated manual transmissions (AMT) and double clutch transmissions (DCT), the position of the shift fork (sliding sleeve) in controlled with position sensors. In the image below we can see how the position of the sliding sleeve is changing through the gearshift process.
Where is the synchronizer hub on the output shaft?
The synchronizer hub (5) is mounted on the output shaft, rigidly connected by a spline. It can move on the axial direction but it an not rotate relative to the shaft. It contains specific grooves which will contain the locking elements.
When does the shift fork hit the synchronizer ring?
In the Synchronizer approach (A) state, the shift fork (sliding sleeve) starts from a central position and starts to move towards the synchronizer ring. When the position of the shift fork remains constant (P 1 ), after moving, it means that the synchronizer ring has hit the friction cone of the gear wheel.
Is there a problem with the 5th gear synchro?
Call S-Technic. Sounds like your synchroes are worn, 5th gear and 1st gear wearing is quite common, bear in mind though, like I said, there is an issue with the nut on the end of the mainshaft coming loose, which also affects shifting in 5th Its just the internet dude, its not real.
When do you change from 4th to 5th gear?
Generally changing from 4th to 5th at about 80km/h (marmion and freeway ramps.) So about 3400 – 4000 rpm. I seriously doubt you have smashed 5th gear synchro by changing gear too fast. When you say it goes in under 2000 rpm, what speed/rpm of 4th are you changing from?
Is it possible to fix the nut and the 5th synchro?
The nut and the 5th synchro can both be rectified without gearbox removal or major dismantling. Budget on a thousand $ at most with new oil and parts.
Do you need to replace the gears in a Subaru?
You don’t need to replace gearsets, thats a completely different area. And installing a 6 speed is probably overkill. As said above, go see a Subaru gearbox guru like Doug at STechnic and get him to diagonose and fix the issue. Could be as simple as an oil change.
