Is it worth it to change your exhaust muffler?
As my years of wrenching piled up, I learned a few things about exhaust work, and I’d like to share one with you: Changing your muffler can yield a lot of smiles in exchange for a reasonable amount of your hard-earned dollars.
Do you need to check aftermarket mufflers after installation?
Just because you threw a muffler on and snugged it up does not mean it will be leak-free. Make certain your new performance exhaust has not introduced a leak due to an improperly tightened clamp or sloppy mating surface. Check the system for leaks after installation, but watch your mitts, because exhausts get searing hot very quickly!
Can you use an aftermarket muffler on a bike?
Except for a slim minority of cases, most people can get away with an aftermarket muffler without altering the fuel system. If other parts of your bike undergo modification (like later you add some headers, or you have a high-flow air filter) plan on re-tuning the fuel system.
Can a slip on muffler be installed without a tune?
Popping and lean-running issues: Generally speaking, a slip-on can be installed without needing a tune. Note I said “generally.”. Depending on your elevation, bike, other modifications, and a whole host of other stuff, like which muffler you chose, you may still find a need to change up the fueling.
Do you need to replace the exhaust muffler?
If there are no noises and the exhaust is at your desired volume level, you’ve successfully replaced your muffler. Deciding on the right muffler can be difficult, so it is important to research the one that you want and the sound you would like for it to make.
Why do you need a muffler on a car?
The muffler on the vehicle is designed to do just that: muffle the exhaust. When an engine runs with no exhaust or no muffler, it can be very loud and obnoxious. Mufflers are installed at the exit of the exhaust to make the sound of the vehicle much quieter.
Do you need to remap exhaust system after new exhaust?
If you were to purchase an exhaust that is similar in size, shape, volume, and design then remapping the fuel injection may not be necessary. But if you go from a set of slip-ons to a 2:1 full system remapping will be necessary.
Do you need to remap your slip on mufflers?
