Why are my cooling fans running on high?
I have a 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500 5.3l that I am having a issue with the cooling fans running on high occasionally. When this happens my temp gauge will read zero and when I kill the engine the fans stay on. The only way to shut them off is to crank the engine and shut it right back off.
Why does my coolant gauge stay at C?
Not open for further replies. So I noticed yesterday that my coolant temperature gauge stays at C, even after driving around for 30 mins. I also noticed that my fans run constantly, even in 53 degree weather, and with me running the heater to see if that would shut them off.
When does a computer turn on a cooling fan?
When the temperature exceeds a specific value — usually 215 degrees Fahrenheit — the computer will turn the fan on. The operating components in the cooling fan circuit include the cooling fan fuse, relay, coolant temperature sensor and the computer.
What to do if your cooling fan won’t turn on?
Pull the cooling fan relay out of the box. Replace the cooling fan relay with a new one. A stuck closed relay is the only thing that can operate the cooling fan continuously with the key off. The computer looses power with the key off and the same applies to the coolant temperature sensor.
What should coolant temp be when engine is hot?
With a good OBD2 code reader, you can also check the live data and the parameters of the CTS sensor. Check that the temperature value of the CTS is around 80-90c when the engine is hot. A lot of engine coolant temperature sensors have two wires and the sensor is controlled by Ohm.
