Why is my Polaris Sportsman bogging down on the road?
I just bought a used 500 1998 model with no history.After cleaning carb and new plug it starts and idles fine. On the road when you hit 15 mph it just looses power. It doesn’t slow down but just acts like it is in too high of gear.
Why is my Polaris cutting out at 1 / 2 throttle?
I had the same problem last year it was running great and started to cut in and out at 1/2 throttle. I messed with jets and cleaned the carb. By accident I bumped the positive lead on the battery and noticed it moved. Problem was solved. I quess it was getting enough juice to start but not when the rpms went up.

I will look during tomorrow times. If it idles fine but it bogs down with throttle, your high speed gas jet is probably clogged. Clean your carb and spray carb cleaner in all small passages, make sure air can flow through all ports no matter how small. Put it back together and it should run great.

If the bike does not idle smoothly or takes a long time to settle back down to idle speed, and you’ve already cleaned the carburetor, you may have an airleak. Airleaks can be caused by a bad seal in the engine, or in the intake/carburetor joints.

What should I do if my Polaris Cam goes out?
Pull the front plastic the gas tank and take off the valve cover. I’ll bet you the cams worn out. Took me about 10 to 15 mins to get the front plastic and the gas tank out. Talked to the polaris dealer a few days ago and he’s pretty sure it’s a cam going out. He guessed it would be around $800 parts and labor.
