The Elite series has always been a tough one, with gameplay mechanics that mirror its cold universe of laissez-faire capitalism and police state oppression. Elite: Dangerous doesn’t make things any easier, so, ahead of the game’s Tuesday launch, here are some helpful pointers to at least get you on your way to a better ship.
What’s the best way to get started in elite?
Your goal should be to get faster and faster at moving to and from landing platforms in different star systems. Come back to finish up the Advanced Combat Training, Mining Training, SRV Training and Ship Launched Fighter Training when you need them. Everyone starts out in Elite with the same ship, called the Sidewinder MkI.
Do you need a Sidewinder to start Elite Dangerous?
Assuming your Sidewinder can make it there in a jump or two, this is exactly the sort of mission you want. Before you take one of those, do make sure that the location they want you to take the goods to really is nearby. The starting Sidewinder can’t jump all that far, so you don’t want to accept a mission out of your Frame-shift Drive range.
How to travel between star systems in Elite Dangerous?
Using Hyperspace jumps to reach new star systems. If you want to travel to a completely new system, you’ll need to complete something called a Hyperspace jump. Hit 1 to open up your left-hand Target panel, then select the star and target it using the list that appears under Navigation.

Overseas, Honda sold the CH125 and CH150 in a variety of countries where it was commonly called the Spacy rather than the Elite. The Elite family name was never really used for any Honda scooters outside of Canada and the USA.
What should I do with a Sidewinder in elite?
With a Sidewinder, you’ll want to make sure that you’re not biting off more than you can chew. Only go after ships of similar size like other Sidewinders, Haulers, Eagles and Adders. Likewise, you’ll want to make sure that the AI isn’t too formidable, so only attack Harmless, Mostly Harmless or Novice pilots.
