Don’t know if there is a sure fire way to determine if you are going to have a bad tranny. But if it kicks out of second under heavy load or does not shift correctly, then there is a problem. Hope this helps.

How big is the drive on a K1200R?
My buddys K1200RS has over 30k on it with no problems at all. My K100RS has about 160k on it without any real issues (Final Drive was replaced, thats about it). Few others I know have 5-20k on their K’s without a lick of problems.

What is the rattle on a BMW K1200?
Your rattle, could be the clutch push rod, they updated it in 2003, put a felt pad on it to sop up the brake fluid in case the slave leaks, but apparently it is more effective an an anti-rattle than anything else. So bad slave and the original push rod, may be your rattle. If the slave bearing is starting to go, that could do it. :thumb:
