Are there Cam tensioners on a 2001 Harley Davidson?
Yes, these have prematurely wore out on some bikes of the ’99-’06 vintage. Food for thought. The SE hydraulic cam plate would be nice. But I have chosen, both in my old Superglide, and my “new” 2001 FXDX, to service the stock tensioners with OEM. Last edited by Big D; 07-03-2017, 07:26 PM . 2001 FXDX Superglide Sport.
What kind of hydraulic tensioner does a Harley Davidson use?
For example, we received this Screamin’ Eagle Hydraulic Cam Chain Tensioner Plate Upgrade Kit from Harley-Davidson. This kit updates the cam chain tensioner of your early-model Twin Cam engine to the latest design, as featured on the Twin Cam 96ci engine.
What kind of cam plate do you use on a Dyna?
On your early models you can take a plate and pump combo from a 06 up dyna and use either Andrews or Feuling conversion cams which will allow the newer plate and eliminate the spring loaded tensioners while allowing you to also update the cam plate to the non bearing bushing style outer cam roller.
What does the CAM service kit on a Harley Davidson include?
Just a tip, the Harley cam service kit includes all of the gaskets, o-rings, inner cam bearings, front cam snap ring, new breathers and some parts that I have no idea where they are used. This came in very handy, as I was trying to buy a lot of these parts individually, and the dealership didn’t have many of them.
What kind of maintenance does a twin cam Harley Davidson do?
I have been inside the cam chest a couple of times for maintenance, including tensioner shoe replacement, servicing the oil pump, and cam bearing replacement, and I don’t have a problem doing that. My engine does not consume any oil, the exhaust is clean and dry, it runs great and I think my noises are normal.
What to do about a cam tensioner on a Harley?
This is a modal window. Bob walks us through a Harley cam chain tensioner inspection, a common issue on the Twin Cam 88. He removes the exhaust, floor boards and everything in the way of the cam cover. At the cam cover, he reminds us to remove bolts in a star or cross pattern to ease pressure evenly.
