What should the temperature of the exhaust be?
Cylinders 1 and 3 get to 350F to 400F, while the rest of the cylinders are 750F to 850F. I expect the temperatures to be around 725F, based off the displacement and the fuel mixture, so the lower temperatures for those 2 cylinders is throwing me a bit.
What should the normal operating temperature be on a Harley?
& filed under Harley Tips. Hello, hope all is well with you. I have a simple two part question for you. What is the normal operating temperature (engine) on a 2007 road king classic with a 96 cubic inch motor.. and what kind of temperature readings should I expect to get on the head pipe between jug and O2 sensors?
Where does the heat go on a Harley Davidson?
Remember that your catalytic converter is on that side and both cylinders blow into it. A majority of the “increased heat” goes out the right exhaust. The higher temp is changing the color of the chrome. You will usually find this on bikes that go on extended highway trips of 200 to 500 miles a day. Don’t try to polish out the color.
Why is my Harley Davidson engine over heating?
You bike was over heating. Parades are torture on an air cooled engine. Not only is there no air blowing across your motor; but your air intake lacks fresh air as it sucks in the exhaust of the bikes in front of you. If you plan on more rides like this, we strongly suggest that you add a fan to your ride.

Where does the noise from the exhaust come from?
If it occurs in the intake system, the noise will come from the fuel system (fuel injector throttle body) and if from the exhaust system (which is most common) will come from the exhaust pipe. What causes a backfire?
Is the exhaust system as hot as the combustion chamber?
Even though your engine burns fuel in an extremely hot environment inside the engine, water vapor is a surprisingly common result of the combustion process. Normally, the exhaust system is nearly as hot as the combustion chamber, well above water’s boiling point of 212 degrees Fahrenheit.
Is it normal for car exhaust to have steam in it?
On cold days, seeing steam in the exhaust on a cold engine is normal. Ruben de Rijcke | Wikimedia Commons. There are times a brand new vehicle in perfect condition with low miles may emit puffy white clouds of steam. As described above, the production of steam, like water, is a normal part of the combustion process.
