When did my Yamaha Grizzly go through oil?

When did my Yamaha Grizzly go through oil?

Haven’t used the machine much since early spring 17. Still low mileage. I have plowed my driveway three times so far this winter and I can smell oil when I back up while plowing. If the bike goes through any more oil before next service, Yamaha is going to have a fight on their hands.

Are there any issues with Yamaha 16 Grizzly engines?

Apparently, there are some owners having smoking and oil consumption issues with their 16’s. Apparently they had a bad batch of valve guides. The engines are all made by Subaru for Yamaha. I hear that Yamaha is aware of the issue and has been paying for the repairs when owners are taking them to task.

Why does my Grizzly have blue smoke coming from the valve?

I know from my mechanicing days that when the valve stems are not sealing in the head, and if it’s an overhead valve motor, the blue smoke is from leaking valve guide seals. Nothing else causes this symptom. I don’t know if a leak down test will be an effective way to test for leaking seals.

When did they start warning people about smoking?

1967 – Surgeon General definitively links smoking to lung cancer and presents evidence that it is causing heart problems. 1970 – Tobacco manufacturers legally obliged to print a warning on the labels that smoking is a health hazard. 1970 – 1990 – Tobacco companies faced with a series of lawsuits. Courts limit their advertising and marketing.

Why are there holes in my Yamaha Grizzly?

The holes are oblong causing oil consumption and the head is basically throw away. The thing that really bothers me is that Yamaha obviously knew about the issue because they fixed it at some point. But , to me , they should have recalled the machines that may be affected and inspect them.
