Does the clutch increase speed?
When looking to change up gears, the process of pressing the clutch and lifting off the accelerator drops your engine speed sufficiently to change into a higher gear and then continue accelerating afterwards.
How to change the speed of the clutch?
Have an assistant depress the clutch pedal to the floor & hold it down. (The adjuster will not turn unless the clutch is disengaged) Put a 5/8 box end wrench on the adjuster hex head & push in the locking collar. Pull the wrench toward the drivers side to increase free travel (actually turning the adjuster clockwise)
Do you need to adjust the clutch pedal?

After the clutch cable has been adjusted, get back into the car to check the clutch feel and free play measurement again. Depress the clutch several times and check the feel of the pedal. The clutch should engage smoothly. This will also seat the clutch cable fully after a few depressions.

Adjust it about a 1/4 turn then check free travel, adjust this way til you have 1 1/2 to 2 inches of free travel. Be sure the locking collar has popped back out to lock the adjuster, (you may have to rotate the adjuster a little one way or the other til it locks)

Now place a flat washer [that is 1/8″ thick, 1 3/4″ diameter and3/8″ hole] over the adjusting screw and replace the locknut. Tighten the locknut until the flat washer compresses the pressure plate and springs enough to free the three [or could be five if upgraded] clutch spring tension adjustment nuts.

With clutch pedal against stop: loosen lock nut (C) sufficiently to allow the adjusting rod to be turned out of the swivel and against clutch fork until the release bearing contacts the pressure plate fingers lightly. Rotate push rod into swivel 3 turns and tighten locknut. NOTE: Chevy II and Camaro V-8 engine models use a two piece push rod.
