Why does my snowmobile only run with the choke on?
A drastic reduction in fuel to air ratio within the carburetor is the primary reason why a snowmobile won’t run unless you put it on choke or half choke. The fuel air mixture will need to be fixed to run the snowmobile with the choke off.
How do you start a snowmobile with a choke?
On an electric snowmobile, turn the key to the “Start” position and listen to the engine purr. Release the choke once the engine is running smoothly. For a manual machine, pull out the recoil starter cord until you feel resistance, and then pull it firmly, as you would with a lawn mower.
How does snowmobile choke work?
Basically all a choke does is restrict airflow to the carb so the air/fuel mixture going into the engine is in a “rich condition” meaning a lot more fuel/oil than air. The choke creates a vacuum to pull more fuel from the jets and into the air/fuel mixture.
Why did my snowmobile not start the Indy 500?
Yep, you could leave alot of slack in the cables, but then of course it wouldn’t pull the plungers up enough to allow gas to prime the motor when it’s cold. The plunger has a spring pushing on it when the cable is bolted back on the carb and it that should keep the port closed and not allow gas to flow up from the float bowl.
How big do choke plungers have to be for Indy 500?
In order to seat the choke plungers, there must be 1/8″ or so under the lever when it’s down. Pull out on it with the lever down. More than that would tell me there’s an issue, less than that would tell there’s an issue also…
Are there any problems with the Indy 500?
My Indy 500 has been running amazing for the last few years… no problems until yesterday when it started bogging down whenever I hammer on the accelerator.
What should I do if my INDY 550 won’t start?
Turn the choke on. With fresh fuel and empty carbs, it should take between 5 and 15 pulls to fire. If after all that (maybe 1/2 hour?) if it’s not starting (or at least sputtering), and the lights still aren’t lighting while pulling, I’d dig deeper.

Can a 96 Polaris Indy 500 run then dies?
I have a 96 Polaris Indy 500, it starts up cold and runs perfect, good throttle response, but after 10 min of riding it, it Bogs down and dies, then never restarts. I’ve replaced all fuel lines, needles and seats, keys, intake boots, new coils.
