I m trying to Prep my R1150GS (2003/10000 miles on clock) for an overland trip to Asia. Can anyone tell me some of the common problems/faults they have found, or things that have broke while riding this bike. I know on the whole they are generally reliable, trying to find out some of the more specific issues people have encountered.

May be looking at a low mileage 2003 r1150gs and never had a BMW and curious what were some of the issues that came up. What’s the part number on my 2004 R1150GS?
The part number for the ones on my 2004 R1150GS is the same part number used on a 2012 GS. If they weren’t reliable, they wouldn’t continue to use them. Additional, a dual-spark bike has four coils; two inline and two regular type coils.
Is the BMW R1150GS a dual spark ignition?
In 2003 – 2004, BMW manufactured the R1150GS with dual-spark ignitions. One component of that ignition that is of concern is the Ignition coil. This looks like an extra large spark plug cap for the spark plug that is horizontal into the top of the valve covers. I regularly ride this GS off-road through water crossings.
