Is the starter clutch on my VStar 1100 bad?
I recently replaced the starter clutch in my 2003 Vstar 1100. From the time I bought it new (2003) there was be an audible clunk when I turned it off. Other threads in the forum indicate that you should never open the throttle when starting; otherwise it will cause kickback which will damage your starter clutch.
How do you change a starter in a V-Star?
1. Drain the oil, and remove the starter motor 2. Remove the rear cylinder head cover to open up to the cam gear area. 3. Remove the kick stand and then the transmission cover. 4. Now remove the little cover where the clutch cable goes into and unhook the clutch cable.
