How do I know if my rear shocks are bad on my motorcycle?
How can I tell? In my experience, when a shock wears out, you will experience a lot of real wheel movement (up and down), and wallowing when in turns, especially 2 up or at higher speeds. If the bike feels well planted, and not squirrely at all, I imagine the shocks are good.
What to do about rear air shocks on a road King?
I think I need to hit it with the compressor to initially put a volume of air in so everything seals, like setting the bead on a tire, then finish it off with the pump. Does this sound right? I have checked all of the connections and they seem good and I can’t hear any air trying to leak but the pump only puts out a puff the size of a fly fart.
How do you replace shocks on a Harley Davidson?
Keep the shock upright to prevent oil from spilling out of the air hose fitting. Support the rear wheel as you remove the lower bolt and washers from the other shock. Gently lower the wheel to the ground. Then, remove the upper shock bolt and washers, keeping the shock upright as you do.
When did Harley Davidson start using air shocks?
Harley Davidson Touring bikes have had air shocks since 1983. At that time, the ability to adjust your shocks for different loads with air pressure was considered cutting edge. Unfortunately, their ability to provide a good ride and handling has not improved much since then. Fortunately, there are many other shocks that provide a better ride.
Can you add air to rear air shocks?
I’ve used the pump to add, or adjust air in the shocks before but adding, or dropping 5lbs here, or there is a lot different than starting from empty. I pumped that little pump 50 to a hundred times and never built any pressure on the gauge.

Why do you need shocks on a Harley Davidson?
The ability to vary air pressure allows the shocks to support everything from a relatively lightweight Road King with a solo rider to a fully loaded Ultra with a heavy rider and passenger aboard.
Why are my rear air shocks not working?
Working on some mods to the rear of my bike I noticed one of the air lines to the rear shocks was routed poorly. So poorly, it could easily started rubbing the rear tire so I re-routed it. I had to disconnect it from the shock which dumped all the air in both shocks and re-connect, no big deal.
What to do if rear air shocks leak?
If you have a valve stem tool, try backing the stem out very slightly to bring the pin up higher and see if it engages then. You could try a little soapy water on the fittings to look for bubbles rather than attempting to hear a leak.
