Why is my Polaris ATV so hard to shift?
At first I thought maybe the linkage had come loose, but after tearing the plastics off everything is till tight. If I turn the key to on, but don’t fire the engine, I can stick shift with no problems through all the gears.
What are the problems with the Polaris Sportsman 500?
Registration is fast and you can even login with social network accounts to sync your profiles and content. out of the blue my vinson wouldn’t shift into park and when I am in H or L and go past a slow pace (maybe in 2nd gear) it grinds and Low grinds even louder. It sounds as though it may be in the rear diff.
What’s the idle speed on a Polaris Ranger?
I bought mine last sept. and it was always tight but never had to shut it off till now and it only has 60 miles on it,I tried turning the idle down and that did not help my idle speed (2012 model) is factory set at 1000 rpm. give or take a few rpm depending on temperature and load on the alternator. 1100 is to high I think.

August 23 update: I contacted Polaris about the shifting problem and they said to take the machine to the dealer. This is a known issue with the clutch spring, and it was fixed for free. It worked great for about a week, then slowly started stiffening up again. Now, three weeks later, the problem is as bad as it ever was.

Why is my idle so high on my Polaris Ranger?
The most common reason is a high idle. If you’re still idling normally (1100rpms+/-) I’d give the person who did the work a quick call. They might ask you bring it back to check the work. Could also be a seized primary bearing but I kinda doubt it, a little to coincidental. It’s funny but my idle usually is at about 950-1000.

Is there a problem with the stop screw on Polaris Sportsman 500?
Its worth to mention that i know of one other identical machine and year (Polaris Sportsman 500 EFI year 2007) that had the same problem with the stop screw, so maybe this is a common problem of that model and year. Thanks for advices i got in this forum during the process!
