The fuel filter is plugged (crap in the tank from poor QA) and or the gas tank vent line being plugged or pinched.

Air filter was dirty. Took it out and ran it without it for a sec and it only does 40 mph and then starts sputtering and then backfires and dies. I put a NGK DPR6EA-9 in there.

What happens when you give a Yamaha a choke?
Basically, she’ll start up fine and idle around 1500-2000 rpm (full choke) but upon going to 1/2 choke or giving her any throttle, she dies. I assume it’s due for a carb adjustment of some sort, but I need a point in the right direction. Thanks!

The first thing to do is to disconnect the cables from the battery such that you cannot have an accidental big spark. You will have to take the airbox and possibly carburetor off to get easy access to the starter motor.
