I took my prius to Pop-A-Lock in Riverside (951)992-1096, Art was able to reset the car to accept the used fob. Art told me he had a lot of success with GenIII fob’s Sounds much like programming a Genie garage door owner.
Can a smart key be reprogramed on a Honda?
Yes, it is, once you’re able to ‘push the button’. Toyota made that a real PITA, and a somewhat expensive proposition. But it can be done, thankfully. I bought new fobs for my Honda, and it was an easy do-it-yourself deal to get the car to accept them.

With the electronics part several inches from the ignition, the car wouldn’t start, and gave me a key icon in the display. Putting the electronics right next to the ignition, the car would start.

I told him that he could use the shaft in the working key and do the programming, when I get home just put the radio board and the battery in the old key housing.
