What does high idle mean when engine is warm?
High idle at warm can mean a lot of things, but if you can fix with synchronization and idle mixture tweaking that should mean that your carb is in proper working order. Or at least, that’s my experience: a bit of off sync and a lean mixture setting can cause a high idle.
What causes engine to lean when engine is warm?
The other thing that happens alot is the throttle shaft seals dry up and crack which lets air in and that could cause a lean condition. Just remember if the engine has any vacuum leaks it will screw up your mixtures. If it continues to be lean major damage can be done to pistions and valves being overheated.
What should I do when I get a high idle?
If you get a higher idle from that at the carbs, then the throttle shaft seals will need to be replaced. A couple of other things to check is to see if the cable or throttles are binding. When you hit the high idle, between carb 1 & 2 or 3 & 4, try to push the throttle closed with your finger.
Why is the idle speed of my car so high?
Step 2 – The idle air control motor (valve) is responsible for controlling the engine idle speed, if this part fails or becomes weak the engine idle speed could become erratic, additionally, this condition may or may not trigger the MIL (check engine, service engine soon light.)
Why does my car rev up when idling?
If your car seems to be revved up to a higher-than-normal RPM while idling, it’s not necessarily a problem. If this problem happens while the engine is cold, it may be part of the engine’s design.
What does accelerated idle mean on a car?
But if the accelerated idle persists even after the engine is fully warmed up, it probably indicates a genuine problem. The first step is to determine if there are any diagnostic trouble codes stored in the PCM (powertrain control module). If there are, this will give you a good starting point for troubleshooting.
Why does my car run at 1200 rpm?
Some cars, especially older cars with carburetors are designed to run at 1200 rpm or so until they are warmed up. And in modern cars, if you are running several accessories, such as the air conditioner or heater, the engine’s onboard computer may be telling it to run at a higher RPM to provide the necessary power.
