What causes turbo fluttering sound?
When your turbocharged engine is under load, the engine is consuming air (airflow), and your turbo is creating pressure (boost). That fluttering noise is the sound of a turbo operating in compressor surge, as the compressor ‘chops’ through the air rather than pushing the air into the engine.
What is the turbo flutter sound?
Essentially, the noise is caused by what is known as “reversion”. When a turbocharged vehicle builds up boost, and the driver backs off the throttle, the throttle body snaps shut, but the turbo is still spinning, trying to compress air.
Is turbo a flutter?
Compressor surge, or turbo flutter, doesn’t occur on the turbine side of the turbocharger, but rather on the compressor side. When your throttle is suddenly closed, the turbocharger lags behind in response time. The turbine has exhaust gas that it’s trying to use but can’t.
Why do I hear a noise when I Turn Off the Turbo?
It’s most often experienced when elevated boost is produced and then cut off abruptly (i.e., you lift off the throttle suddenly). The noise you hear is the compressed air trapped in the intake that has nowhere else to go but back out the way it entered the turbo.
Why does my car make a whining noise when I turn the car?
That would be a pilot bearing, which also means clutch replacement. A manual transmission is only turning when the car is either in motion, or when the transmission is in Neutral and the clutch is engaged (your foot is off the pedal). So sounds that occur while the car is stationary and in gear are most likely associated with the clutch.
Why is my car making a shrieking noise?
If your car’s engine is making a shrieking sound it could be an issue with the serpentine belt. Either the rubber has gotten old and brittle or the tensioner could be failing. If the latter is to blame the belt may not have the appropriate pressure applied to it, causing slippage and ultimately ill-mannered commotion.

Why does my Turbo make a loud noise?
Potential causes of turbo noise include: • Boost/air/vacuum leak – either on your engine intake, or your intercooler • Compressor wheel damage • Split hoses • Over boosting (potentially caused by a wastegate fault) or poor remap Thankfully, these problems are rarely terminal,… • Exhaust gasket
What kind of noise does a turbo whistle make?
As the name suggests, a turbo whistle sounds like a high pitched whistle or whining sound, heard when the turbocharger kicks in as you accelerate and the revs go up. For some people, a turbo whistle can be annoying, but to others, it’s actually desirable! In fact, some people purchase aftermarket ‘turbo whistler’…
Why does my Ford turbo whine when boosting?
Looking at my gauges on my cobb ap and the stock boost gauge all looks normal. It’s holding boost, and still feels just as fast as before the noise started. The noise almost sounds like a supercharger whine and only happens when boosting. A couple days ago I took it to my local Ford dealer and they told me i need to replace the turbo…
Why does my car whistle when I Turn on the engine?
A whistling noise coming from your vehicle can also have a number of other causes, including: • Exhaust gasket vibration – as parts become loose and rub against each other, they can create a buzzing noise that’s reminiscent of a turbo whistle • Exhaust gasket leak – the noise could be the exhaust gases leaking…
